Case Studies - Councils
Customers: Lichfield Council
Problem:
- The Council needed to be able to keep track of employees away from the office, especially when working in remoter areas.
- They identified a safety issue in case of accident or emergency for lone workers.
- With new legislation coming in, they needed to ensure that the agreed routes had been gritted to reduce the possibility of legal action being taken against them for accidents caused by icy non-gritted roads.
- A problem had been identified of employees causing damage to other vehicles/property by not raising grass-cutting arms whilst travelling.
Solution:
The Trackonix system has allowed constant real-time tracking of vehicles, improving control, efficiency and safety for employees. The systems were linked into the Power Take-Off units which drive the gritter units and grass-cutting arms. As a result, an accurate record can be kept of routes and times of gritting activity, reducing the risk of missed roads. The 30-second polling means that progress can be tracked on even short stretches of route. Questions from the public can be substantiated with ease. Employees now know they have to raise the arms of grass-cutters when cutting is complete, removing the risk of damage to property, and, should an accident happen to the operative, especially in a remote area, they can press a special alarm button on the unit to alert the fleet manager by a text message to allow assistance to be obtained quickly.
